Prince of Persia has come in various versions over the years, and recently also as a movie, with Jake Gyllenhaal, as the brave and adventures prince, who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world.
Prince of Persia will always have a special place in my gaming heart, since it was the first game I had for my old 8086 PC, about 20 years ago. The smooth graphics, the engulfing game play and the story, was pretty creative and amazing, for a PC game at the time.
Now, Ubisoft gives everybody a chance to walk down memory lane and once again fight the dangers, lurking below the palace, in the form of treacherous traps and aggressive guards, to free the princess within 60 minutes, as they release the first version of the game, as an app for both iPhone and iPad.

I really like this app, because they have managed to keep much from the original, like graphics (albeit a little softer than it once was), the sound and the controls, all of which, is responsible for the game’s enchanting and characteristic game play.
They have also managed to keep the controls, just as frustrating, as I remembered them. In fact, the controls can drive you madly insane from time to time, because how careful you are guiding your prince, he sometimes takes three steps, instead of just one, which usually means that he plunges down a bottomless hole or gets his body pierced by sharp iron pickets and you must start all over again. Very frustrating, but a big part of the game’s characteristic, nonetheless.
This is a great game, then as now, and I can really recommend you trying it out, since I found it just as enchanting, as I found it almost 20 years ago.
I can hardly dare to think on how many nights I spent in those dungeons, jumping, sneaking and fighting dumb guards. However, I must confess one thing, though – I was never able to finish the game and free the princess!
Nevertheless, now Ubisoft has given me the chance to finally save the princess and feel the sweetness of victory, all for just $0.99, which in my case is a cheap price for a little revenge on the past.
What is your relationship with, Prince of Persia, maybe you played it on Amiga, Apple II, Atari, NES or PC about 20 years ago? Maybe you even completed the game, as well? Feel free to share your experiences, in the comments!
Below I have included an image of how the game looked in the very beginning.
