Tags: , ,

Matt Cutts is somewhat of an ikon in the SEO world and is working at Google. USA Today, asked him to share some tips on how to get good rankings in Google. Matt lined up a few pointers, that every webmaster should follow, in order to increase their chances of ranking well, inside Google.

First, highlight your main keyword, on the web page. If you want to be found, under a specific keyword phrase, make sure that phrase is on your page. The phrase should be at the top, as well as peppered throughout your page.
Second, use your meta tags. The most important tags are the TITLE and DESCRIPTION tags. Those tags are the ones, that are displayed on Google’s search results.

Third, get links to your site from other websites. Out of the 100 factors Google use, to rank sites, this is one of the most important ones.

Fourth, create a blog and post often. This can help your site to get incoming links, from others.

At last, Matt recommends that you take advantage of the free webmaster tools that Google offers to webmaster, at google.com/webmaster, and that you create a text-based sitemap for your site. Also, that you add your business to Google’s Local Business center at, google.com/local/add

The last word of advice from Matt Cutts was, don’t overdo it. In other words, don’t stuff your pages full of keywords.

I think what he said was, make natural pages for humans in the first place. Add content, often, that is related to the site’s main key phrase. Get incoming links, from sites that is related to yours. Make sure that your TITLE and DESCRIPTION tags are optimized and well written. And for last, find a good keyword balance, throughout your whole site, so that Google doesn’t think you are doing something fishy.

By stick, to Matt Cutts advice, I think you will do pretty good, in the long run, when it comes to SEO.
